Mate and I decided it was really important to take a little time for ourselves before baby #3 arrives. Some people have never heard of a babymoon, some people go on an actual vacation and others do something in between. I think we fall into the in between category. After dropping the girls off for a sleepover with their Baba and Dida, we headed for a night downtown. Our evening started with a little shopping at Tower City, where we spent the whole time buying things for the girls and their sibling. Even on a night away, our life still revolves around the kids.
Next, we enjoyed a delicious dinner at Greenhouse Tavern. It's a restaurant focused on using sustainable products and organic food. There are old fashioned bicycles hanging from the ceiling, tables made out of driftwood and a wall full of old vhs tapes. The eclectic atmosphere, dim lighting, and unique dishes made for a really nice dining experience. After dinner, we took a quick walk over to the casino where we played penny slots until we'd almost won back all of our money. By nine o'clock, we were exhausted and excited for a full nights sleep back at the hotel. Perhaps spending money to stay 30 minutes from our house is a little wasteful, but it was totally worth it. There were no distractions or household chores to worry about. We left all electronic devices at home and our phones stayed out of reach.
While I'd love to report that I woke up late and completely refreshed, that didn't exactly happen. Around midnight, I experienced a random hour of nausea that was pretty uncomfortable. I eventually fell back asleep, only to wake up for good at 5:45. It may not have been the night of sleep I had envisioned, but I was thankful there was no reason to get out of bed. By 8:30, we were enjoying a delicious breakfast and talking about how happy we were with our decision to go on a mini babymoon. This was the first time in forever that I felt like a wife, not a mom.
Feeling refreshed didn't last long. Our girls fell asleep on the way home, which completely messed up their nap schedule. Bath-time went horribly wrong when someone went to the bathroom in the water. By early evening, we had overly tired toddlers and plenty of tantrums. Welcome back to reality...
