The Right Stuff

While we were in the NICU with the older girls, tickets went on sale for the New Kids On The Block/Backstreet Boys concert.  While I was in labor with Eliana, tickets went on sale for the Boyz II Men, 98*, New Kids On The Block concert.  Coincidence?  I don't think so.  I'd like to thank my favorite boy bands for announcing their summer tours at the same time Mate was shopping for "push presents".  I'd also like to thank my husband for giving me a night off.

Last night was even better than the concert two years ago.  You can read about that experience here.

Rachael and I enjoyed dinner and drinks at the Chocolate Bar before the show.  By drinks, I mean one chocolate covered pretzel martini that was pretty strong for this lightweight. A few sips in and I started to get sleepy.  This won't surprise people who know me well.  I probably don't indulge in an adult beverage more than four times a year and I've never had more than one drink at a time.  I don't really like the taste of alcohol and I really, really, really like to be in control of myself.  Maybe I'm wound a little more tightly than others, but I'm okay with that.
The concert began promptly and we spent the next 3+ hours dancing, singing, cheering and people watching.  I'll spare all of you non band-boy-loving people most of the details, but I especially loved the tipsy lady to my left who couldn't figure out how to work her camera and the dance moves on display by the ladies in front of me.  Here is just a little more insight into my experience:

1. Aren't these guys a little old to be dancing that suggestively? Should I close my eyes?
2. I don't understand why these ladies are hyperventilating over being hugged by a band member.  Are they aware of all that sweat?  Gross.
#1 and #2 are why my husband is more than willing to send me off to watch a bunch of men perform.
3. Are two women really in an all out brawl over the shirt that was just thrown into the crowd? Classy.
4. What is the deal with the old man sitting a few rows in front of me? Is that his daughter or much younger partner next to him?  Either way...creepy.
5. There is really no way to hear "The Right Stuff" and not break out in the signature shuffle. This is so much fun!!!

Of course, I did my best not to think about anything going on at home, but that's easier said than done.  As much as I enjoyed myself, the best part of the night was coming home to a dark, quiet, clean (way to go, Mate) house filled with my favorite people sleeping soundly.

If two years go by and another concert tour is announced, I probably won't be receiving tickets as a push present.  However, I'm sure they'd be an equally good birthday present (hint hint, Mate).
