Today was a day I've looked forward to for the past 2 years, 8 months and 17 days. Mia and Ava had their first ballet class. After signing them up for pre-ballet, I could hardly wait to shop for all the necessary apparel. Even though it's a little out of the way, Mate and I took the girls to the same shop my mom used to take me. One of our girls wasn't so thrilled about being there, so the magical moment I was anticipating didn't exactly happen. We did manage to get them fitted for ballet slippers before calling it quits, though.

This morning, as I got them dressed for class, I was encouraged by all their excitement. We entered the dance studio to find a handful of families waiting for class to begin. As I pulled out each pair of brand new ballet slippers, I noticed the other moms look at each other. Apparently, I was the only one who knew to buy ballet shoes (those 15+ years of dance come in handy). Luckily, the other girls were able to borrow a pair from the teacher. For all the tough moments I've had this past week, I was appreciative for a moment where it looked like I knew what I was doing. With each shoe I slipped on my girls' feet, I felt a little more emotional. There I was, after 2 years, 8 months and 17 days getting them ready for their first ballet class.

The plan was for all the kids to go in with the teacher while the parents wait in the lobby. I was really looking forward to handing Mia and Ava off for just a bit. Not that I don't want to be with them, but after 2 years, 8 months and 17 days, they need to be with other adults. One mom must not have gotten the memo because she waltzed right into the room and took a seat. I stayed out, but that didn't last long. Within seconds, my girls were crying and pulling on the door with all their might. Thankfully, my mom came to help me in case this very thing happened. I handed the baby off to her when the teacher asked all the parents to come in. At least my girls weren't the only ones having separation anxiety. For the next 30 minutes, I danced around the room with Mia and Ava. I'm not sure how long ballet will interest them, so I'll take all the moments I can get!
