Celebrating our Anniversary

We decided not to get each other anything for our anniversary this year.  Neither of us need anything, so it seemed silly to buy gifts. There's always flowers and cards, but I vetoed those, too.  The only time I really enjoyed getting flowers was when Mate would send them to me on the first day of each school year.  All I wanted to do was go out to eat and all Mate wanted was dessert from White Flower Bakery.  That's easy enough.  Monday, the girls and I drove up to Beachwood to buy dessert.  This entailed pulling the stroller out, putting some pieces back on, taking both girls out of the car, holding doors open with any free body part, spending two minutes in the bakery and loading everyone and everything back in the car.  I'm not complaining.  I love that I get to be with the girls all day, everyday.  Besides, Mate is definitely worth all the effort and the gourmet brownies are amazing.

On Tuesday, the four of us went to dinner together.  It's easier to take the girls with us than go through all the work of leaving them with someone else.  I am thankful for the 10 years we've had together and our 3 years of marriage.  There is a sweet simplicity to our life that I can only attribute to all the time we had together before the girls arrived.  We agreed it was the best anniversary, yet.
