May Celebrations

Celebrating Mate's Birthday and Mother's Day have made for a busy beginning to May.
First, Mate's parents threw a little party for him and kept the girls overnight so we could celebrate downtown.

We waited nearly two hours to try Mabel's. It was definitely worth the wait.
Especially, because we got to see Michael Symon working in the kitchen.  Not that it matters, but he's thinner in person than he looks on t.v.

Mate's actual birthday started off with palacinke (crepes) before he headed to work.
I was really sick, so I let the girls take charge of decorating the house. It's the thought that counts, right?
Mate brought home take-out for dinner, opened presents, ate pie and then sent me to urgent care . . . thank goodness we had such a great time celebrating prior to his actual day or I would have felt really bad.
I spent a considerable amount of his birthday in a busy waiting room, sandwiched between two people with bleeding head wounds.  So. Much. Fun.

Thankfully, I was feeling quite a bit better by the time Mother's Day rolled around.
Mate worked really hard to get them to take a nice picture for me . . . I'll take it.

Only one of them was willing to pose with me, though.

We started our day by meeting my side of the family for brunch, which was accompanied by a great view:
After brunch, Mate, the girls and I headed to a performance at Playhouse Square.
We were quite exhausted, but rallied long enough to spend a couple of hours with Mate's side of the family.  I think I was too tired to take pictures, so you'll just have to trust me.
