The Other Night

Around 1:00 a.m. the other night, I was suddenly awoken.  There was crying and screaming and yelling.  You're probably thinking this came from our children, which is partly true.  However, have I mentioned I'm married to a sleep- walker, talker, dancer, screamer . . . crazy person?  Well, I am.  Apparently, one of the older girls woke up crying, which startled Mate.  He flew out of bed and started yelling loudly enough that it woke the baby, all of which woke me.  On my way to comfort Eliana, I poked my head into Mia and Ava's room to ask Mate why he was yelling.  He simply responded by saying, "because they are yelling".  Oh, okay.  It was the middle of the night, I was sleepy and we had three kids to get back to bed, so I didn't question any further.  I did, however, hope to myself that our girls do not inherit this gem of a trait.  It's unnerving . . . really, really, really unnerving to have things like that happen in the middle of the night.  Can you imagine if I have to worry about three children and a husband trying to fly from the bed, drop-kick a nightstand, yell gibberish or demand to be rescued while dangling from the top bunk?  You might think I'm joking, but all of these things have actually occurred-  some of them multiple times.  Anyway, we had a good laugh about it in the morning and everything was put into perspective when Mate said, "I was just trying to protect the girls."  The night's events suddenly made sense.  I should be grateful that we can count on Mate to be swift and loud should anything threaten our safety in the middle of the night.   I stand corrected; he is valiant, not crazy.
