We don't really celebrate Sweetest's Day, but for the sake of this post's title, we'll pretend. Our weekend was off to a disappointing start when some plans we had been looking forward to got canceled. Thankfully, we rallied and found a great alternative. After throwing together some make-shift ballerina costumes, our girls were ready for Trick or Treat Street at the IX Center. There were moments when Mia and Ava had smiles bright enough to light up all of Manhattan. Their happiness was contagious and I loved watching Mate watch them. There is no better Sweetest's Day gift than to see your favorite people full of joy.

Our whole experience was made even more special by the kindness of a stranger. As we sat down to eat, one of the janitors asked Mate if all the girls were his. He proudly claimed them and then went about the task of dishing out food. We noticed our new friend linger for a few moments, but didn't think much of it. All of a sudden, he tossed a ten dollar bill on our table and told us what a blessing our girls are. Of course, we refused his generous gift, but thanked him for his kindness. He hugged Mate multiple times and shared some encouraging words. Sometimes kindness comes from unexpected places and there is no doubt that this random act was much appreciated.

As if all of that wasn't enough, today, while at brunch with some of my family, an older gentleman approached our table and gave Mia and Ava stuffed animals. I'll never know why we were the recipients of his kindness and it truly came as a surprise. I was really excited to get home so I could tell Mate what happened. Somewhere, two gentleman are completely unaware of just how much their kindness meant to our family.
