While Mate's Away: Chicago Edition

When we dropped Mate off at the airport bright and early Saturday morning, I must admit that I was a little bummed we weren't going with him.   Well not so much "we" as in the girls and me, but rather me . . . just me.  I wanted to go to Chicago with Mate . . . or anywhere, really.  My pity party didn't last long because I made up the rule in our house that says we can't both be gone for more than a day.  There is a reason behind this that I will share in one of my next posts.  For now, here is how the ladies and I held down the fort while the man of the house was away:
They painted all over themselves and a little on the paper
We took a trip to the library

We went out to dinner.  I'm happy to report that chips, salsa, a virgin strawberry daiquiri and outside seating made for a successful first attempt at taking them out to eat by myself (Eliana sleeping in her car seat helped, too).
We snuggled in bed and watched a movie

We spent time with family

 We read lots of books
We had friends over to play
We went swimming (my first attempt at taking all three by myself went surprisingly well)
We planned to go out for ice cream, but it started to rain.
It was ice cream sandwiches on the deck, instead.
We had Great-Grandma Barb over for a visit
I dragged the girls to a twins club meeting.
They lasted for an hour and a half before I had to sneak out.
We picked up Mate from the airport

Each time Mate leaves, we find plenty of ways to keep ourselves entertained.  I am certainly not afraid of going it alone, but there is no denying we missed our guy.
