I have been planning this room for months. It started with scrolling through image after image of playrooms on Pinterest. I was drawn to a few different designs, but wasn't sure how I'd pull them off. It was important not to go in a direction that was obnoxiously kid-centered. We use our basement for large parties, so almost everything needs to be removable or easily transformed. Ultimately, the theme was inspired by some scrabble pillows I saw online. My favorite way to create is by using one thing as inspiration and then going from there. I feel better about the outcome if I don't just copy someone else. Here is what I've been up to:

| Our new play space |
| Scrabble Art |
I bought sticky floor tiles from Home Depot and cut them into fours. Next, I used Modge Podge to adhere the letters and a stencil to make the numbers. I nailed cardboard to the wall and then glued each letter to the cardboard.
| The table is from IKEA. I added a scrabble board to the top to fit in with the theme. I have milk crates full of books that I wanted to use as chairs. I brought one crate with me to Home Depot, where a very nice man cut four pieces of wood to size for free. I used foam and fabric to create a cushion. Each seat is secured by ribbon. |
| I made two floor pillows to create a reading area |
| I plan for this to eventually serve as a dress-up/imaginary play area. |
| I created this mirror by using scrabble tiles, a shadow box and a flat mirror. |
| Ava's place to display art |
| Mia's place to display art |
| If we ever grow our family, there is a place for future children's art |
| Magnetic scrabble tiles and a cookie sheet for future learning |
The whole space cost around $250 to create. The table, carpet, wall shelves, frames, bookcase, containers and easel came from IKEA. I bought the scrabble tiles and boards on Ebay. As mentioned above, I got the sticky floor tiles and wood from Home Depot. The fabric and mirror supplies were bought at Hobby Lobby. Now, if we can only convince the girls to stay down here and play!
