Vacation Countdown

Our calendar has been pretty full lately and there is no sign of a rest anytime soon.  I'm not complaining, just preparing myself for all that is to come: birthdays, showers, weddings, vacations, parties, random commitments and being a single-parent for a few days while Mate attends conferences.

Since I realize our summer vacation will be here before I know it, it's time to get prepared.  I'm looking for advice here, so please feel free to share your expertise on any of this:

1. 12 hour car ride with our little ladies
2. How much baby gear to drag with us (travel booster seats, pack-n-play, toys, monitors)
3. I plan on bringing outlet covers for the condo.  Is any other baby proofing necessary?
4. Floats, life jackets, those arm things?  What do you suggest for the pool?
5. We'll be bringing a large beach umbrella.  What about those baby pop-up tents?
6. Anything else that will make our first family vacation a success

Thanks in advance for helping this planner plan. Hilton Head bound in 52 days...

  1. Last year in St. Augustine, many families had tent "houses" that I saw in Target for around $120. or so. They are about 8'x 8' and opened quickly all in one piece. Adults can stand comfortably inside. They have fabric screen sides that can be rolled up if you want. Big enough for a pack n play inside and some chairs. They looked like such a great idea with small children you might want to investigate. Happy planning!
