Part of the allure of a VBAC delivery was an easier recovery, but that didn't prove true. Sure, the first couple of weeks after my c-section were uncomfortable, but the stuff I've been dealing with this time is worse, including the post-baby body.
When I was pregnant with Mia and Ava, I was determined not to gain too much weight. There were a few reasons for my concern over excess pounds. First, I was terrified of getting in trouble at the doctor's office. I never wanted to be told that I had gained too much. Second, I wanted to make sure I was doing everything I could to ensure the babies were healthy. Third, I didn't know how difficult it would be to lose "baby weight" since I'd never been pregnant before. So, I used my elliptical regularly, ate lots of salad and ignored crazy cravings. As a result, one month after giving birth, I was back to pre-pregnancy weight. Over the next year, I even dropped a few extra pounds thanks to the calories burned producing milk.
Well, then we decided to have another baby and all those pounds were more than happy to come right back. I gained about the same amount with Eliana that I did with the girls and was hoping it would come off just as easily. Looks like my luck ran out and I'm actually going to have to work at losing these last five pounds. I took the first six weeks post-baby easy, but that ends now. I'm committed to exercising at least four times a week and staying away from as many extra calories as possible. I know some days will include a piece of chocolate and others will go by without exercise, but no one's perfect.
Hopefully blogging about this now, will keep me motivated and accountable. I've put it out there, so now it's up to me to make it happen.

Tina, if it's only 5 lbs, then I would say that you have won the war and you have only to take care of one last little battle! It sure sounds to me like you made the right nutrition-and-exercise choices during and after pregnancy, and beautiful, beautiful Eliana is a good measure of the proof!
ReplyDeleteI lost the baby weight with Emrie so fast (not a month, that's for sure, but fast!). With Aven it took me six months to lose the baby weight (even after running a 1/2 marathon and watching every calorie that went in my mouth, talk about discouraging). Even now, my body isn't really 'the same' as it was before, but I never really expected it to be. It's easy for me to say don't be so hard on yourself, but I do know how you're feeling! Three kids later, you still look great! And, if it's any consolation, I didn't lose the last 5 pounds with either of my girls until I stopped nursing.
