Eliana's Heart

Eliana had her follow-up cardiology appointment Friday afternoon.  Mate and I were both going to take her, but Mia and Ava were still napping when it was time to leave.  I wanted him to go because he has so much more medical knowledge, but since I'm the only one that can feed her, he stayed home with our nappers.  When we arrived, the cardiologist took a quick listen to her heart and then sent us down the hall for another echocardiogram.   For the next twenty minutes, she went back and forth between crying and sleeping while the doctors looked closely at her little heart.  The good news is that the hole between her two chambers is so small that we shouldn't have to worry about it all.  The not-so-good news is that they found another issue.  She has a PDA, which means there is abnormal blood flow between two of the major arteries connected to her heart.  It sounds a bit scary, but both of the older girls were born with the same problem.  Luckily, the issue usually resolves itself over time.  While we would have preferred not to have to deal with any of this, we're happy that no treatment is needed at this time.  We'll take her back to the cardiologist every three months for a check-up.  Hopefully nothing unexpected will present itself at future appointments.
Trying to catch a smile
