What an exhausting morning! Our first stop was the pediatrician's office for a couple of vaccination shots, followed by a quick check-up at the OB/GYN, followed by another ultrasound. Thankfully, the first two appointments were quick and painless, well almost (I'm sure Mia and Ava didn't enjoy those shots). Unfortunately, the ultrasound office was backed up and our appointment started about 40 minutes late. So much for three quick appointments.
The baby is weighing in at 5 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring a few days ahead of schedule. He or she is using my bladder as a pillow and has wiggled its bottom under my ribs. Someone sure has made themselves comfy! At least there is an explanation for my shortness of breath and frequent bathroom breaks.
Besides the baby's position being uncomfortable for me, it also made for another difficult ultrasound. We spent way too long trying to get a view of the heart, which was problematic because Mate had to get to the college to teach. After politely explaining that we were running out of time, the doctor came in. He declared that our baby was stubborn before confirming that there is still excess fluid in one of the kidneys. There is really no way of knowing what is going on until the baby is born. At that time we'll have an appointment with a Nephrologist.
For now, it's just a waiting game. Mate has a list of everything he needs to do in case my water breaks unexpectedly. Last time we were completely unprepared. We're aiming for a little calmer experience this time around.
