Mate recently returned from a work related trip that kept him away for four full days. This was our longest time apart since the girls were born. While we agree that changes in our normal routine can be nice, I wasn't particularly excited about him leaving this time. The girls had dinner with grandma, playtime with their cousins, ice cream with grandpa and quality time with Baba and Dida. That was about the extent of our excitement unless you include these moments:
While getting the mail Thursday evening, I dropped my cell phone into the storm drain. I couldn't lift the lid off to retrieve it, so I gathered duct tape and a pole. When that didn't work, I called the police department and was told they could help me in the morning. Thanks, but if it rains overnight my phone would disappear. There was nothing left to do but ask my neighbors for help. Luckily, the three of us were able to lift off the lid and save my phone from drowning. Of course something like this would happen when Mate wasn't home.
While grocery shopping Friday, something happened between Ava and Mia that caused one of them to grab the other one's face in anger. The violent exchange, followed by screaming and crying didn't go unnoticed by fellow shoppers. People were staring at us. How embarrassing.
Needless to say, we were happy to pick Mate up from the airport Sunday night!
