This is 10

Ten years ago, it was the eve of our wedding day.  I can still recall the feelings of excitement and anticipation for what was to come.  You can read about some of the highlights of our day here.  This post isn't about the day we were married, but about all the days that followed: the 3,650 opportunities to learn, grow, laugh, cry, celebrate, love and fail.  We've always had a really strong foundation in our shared values, goals and plans.  We also had a false sense of security that wanting the same things in life and being committed to achieving them together would be enough. About 8 years in, we realized that all the milestones met and achievements accomplished were great, but careers and raising children and civic engagement weren't going to sustain a marriage.  We became hyper-focused on choosing each other every day, assuming the best instead of the worst, humbling ourselves and spending more time together.  On the eve of our 10 year anniversary, I can say, with confidence, a marriage that is loving, respectful and fun doesn't always come easily, but it's worth the effort.
