Hilton Head 2016

We had a great time enjoying Hilton Head with my family this year:
Our favorite place to stop on our way down to South Carolina
After 13 hours of traveling, we were happy to be in Beaufort
Then, it started to rain . . . downpour, actually. We were invited into an art gallery to wait out the weather, which was lovely.  However, the owners proceeded to feed our children cupcakes with blue frosting.  Mate nearly panicked trying to ensure stained fingers didn't make contact with any artwork.
We were greeted by lovely weather the next morning and breakfast overlooking the water

We had a bit of time to waste before taking a horse-drawn carriage tour around historic Beaufort.

The girls were thrilled to give the horse, Jake, a treat at the end of the tour.  We were thrilled to have made it back safe and sound considering Jake's insistence on starting and stopping whenever he wanted.
The first of many ice cream treats throughout the week.
The girls couldn't wait to ride the trolley once we got to Hilton Head
My nephew, Colton, enjoyed the ride, too.
Enjoying their favorite place to play
The girls all ready for the 4th of July
The day started with pony rides and a petting zoo
We kept the fun going with family game time
Eliana takes Uno very seriously
My mom, grandma, sister and I enjoying fireworks from the beach
There's always a visit to see Shannon Tanner . . .
. . .  who happily adds another autograph to their hats
Our trip was filled with so many special moments like this.
 and this.
We were up bright and early one morning to fight off pirates
 and search for hidden treasure.
We splurged on gigantic hot chocolates in 100 degree weather.
Perhaps, the best part of our trip, was watching Mia and Ava befriend a fellow 5-year-old.  Coleman's parents were nice enough to exchange addresses so these three can keep in touch. We're anxious to see if Coleman sticks to his promise to marry Ava one day.
We worked off some of those ice cream calories during family bike rides.

Mate had it a bit easier since Mia held her own on the tag-along bike.
On our last night, we headed to the beach for some shell collecting.
The joy this place brings our family keeps us coming back year after year
The perfect end to our trip.
On our way home-sweet-home.
