Highs and Lows

During dinner last night, Mate and I were attempting to have a conversation, but the girls kept interrupting.  I decided it was time to organize the chaos and started highs and lows.  As I asked Mia what the best part of her day was, Eliana said, "Excuse me. Little Gym".  I'm not sure what we found more adorable- her polite interruption or rapid response.  I've been waiting years for Mia and Ava to be old enough to share their highs and lows; Eliana just proved they may have been ready a long time ago.  Even though, my teaching career taught me that we should set our expectations above what we think children can accomplish, we don't always do that with our own kiddos.  Lesson learned.

Mia went on to say that school was the best part of her day and Ava concurred.  When asked what they didn't like about their day, Mia shared that a friend at school was crying.  We don't usually consider Mia our most empathetic child, so this response made me quite happy.  Ava wasn't too fond of the fact that it rained just when they were about to go outside to fly paper bag kites.  In the world of a four-year-old, that was quite a disappointment.  Once we all shared our highs and lows, Mate and I got a chance to finish our conversation . . . perhaps that was the real high of the day.
A high from our weekend was Cleveland Flea being a few blocks from where Mate and I got married. The girls giggling on the church steps was pretty awesome.
