That Moment
Mate and I have attended quite a few weddings, recently. During the mother/son dance at one, Mate leaned over and said something along the lines of, "I feel bad you'll never get that moment". I was pretty shocked by this for two reasons. 1. He knows that I am perfectly happy with three girls. 2. He isn't one to think in terms of what we "don't" have. I've thought about his comment a lot over the last two weeks. Here's the truth: I'm not one bit upset that there are no mother/son dances in my future. I'm not upset because it means Mate will get that moment three times over (if our girls marry and include this tradition, of course). The "moments" scale tips way in my favor over here. There are few things better than your kids running out of preschool screeching with joy that you are there to get them. There are few things better than spontaneous sunny day picnics at the playground. There are few things better than being able to witness all the milestones. I have collected so many special moments since our girls were born. It only seems fair that there are some experiences that only Mate will get. I can't wait to sit back and watch him dance with our daughters.
