Mommy Milestone

On Saturday, the girls spent their first night away from us.  We had a wedding to attend and decided to let Mia and Ava sleep over their Baba and Dida's house.  The night before, I woke up at 2:30 in the morning and couldn't fall back asleep.  Clearly, I was a bit anxious about leaving the girls in the care of others all night.  While packing their first overnight bag, I couldn't help but think about how happy I'd be when I was unpacking it.

We took the girls with us to the ceremony and then made the drive to Mate's childhood home.  The closer we got, the more anxious I became.  I didn't want to leave them, but knew I had to. Deep breaths. We got the girls settled and left rather quickly.   I was relieved to have that part over with.

The bride and groom
We had a wonderful time at the wedding.  The groom and I grew up together and I was so glad to share in his special day.  As he eloquently toasted his bride and thanked all in attendance, I couldn't help but reminisce about the time he and his brother were throwing melted malted milk balls at my sister and me in Niagara Falls or late night swims on vacation in Hilton Head.  They were the brothers we never had. Leaving the girls so we could celebrate with them was a great choice.

Mate and I decided to capitalize on our night without children and check out the new casino.  I'm not sure where we got the energy to drive downtown at 10:30 p.m., but I'm glad we did.  The city was packed with people and the line to get in the casino was a bit longer than we expected.  Luckily, they opened up a second entrance and we made our way in quickly.  By 1 a.m. we were back home with all our money.  I'd say that was a successful evening away from the girls.

Of course, we didn't sleep in and were on our way to pick Mia and Ava up by 7:30.  Nothing is better than having your children smile and toddle over to you after time away.  The whole ordeal wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.  While I'm sure this is just the first of many sleepovers, I think we'll hang on to them for a bit before doing it again.
